PRC-100 Failure

PRC-100 Failure

2010-12-06 by ipermedia

Good morning to everyone,

after 3 years of work my PRC-100 is dead. I was using it to command my DC3 Pro when the screen freezed and no key worked anymore.
I tried to resume it disconnecting the battery and connecting again, but it never starts again.

I'm trying to get assistance from Yamaha but I believe that after 3 years there is no other way than to buy a new one.

I arrange myself with the Iphone applet, but it has not all the features and the need for a Wi-Fi connection is a limit for my network, so I would explore a way to make this PRC working.

Has anyone experienced this failure?
Is there a way to repair this.... obsolete device?
How much could cost a new one?

... suggestions?

many thanks in advance,

Roberto

Sadly, a new PRC-100 costs $1000. I bought one last year.

Good morning, everyone.

Keep in mind that if you have connected your Mark IV to your local area network, you can access all user features--EXCEPT the networking setup features--by using the Virtual PRC on your computer. The Virtual PRC looks exactly like your physical PRC. The differences are the you control it with your mouse or track pad and when you need to type, you type from your computer keyboard.

Your technician, however, will need the physical PRC in order to calibrate the instrument. However, if he has one, he can connect his to your piano for that purpose.

Regards,
PianoBench

I solved the problem and the PRC resurrected!

I didn't noticed till now a small slide on the rear of the PRC, under the battery door. It's a sort of switch to connect the battery.
Moving it the PRC was able to boot.

Many thanks for all the suggestions (expecially the one from Mark Fontana to look for a "reset button", so I found the slide!).

PRC is still useful... even to command the metronome other than calibration and so on.

The PRC-100 is a hand-held computer (PDA), which has been modified to provide a wireless remote control, with colour touchscreen for the Disklavier Mark IV.
