Grand TOuch DGT7A and the DKC-850 upgrade

Grand TOuch DGT7A and the DKC-850 upgrade

2011-02-11 by FELKER

Purchased the DKC-850 and installing it myself.
The Grand Touch (Digital Piano) DGT7A with the DKC-55RCD

Problems:

1. There is no include mounting bracket and the 55RCD's bracket is too narrow. Where do I get one that fit the 850?

2. I cannot find how to get the Piano and a voice to play at the same time? Voice is via the MIDI AUX inputs using the RCA to Head phone cables.

3. The Metronome only plays out the 850's rear speaker, and very quiet..

4.When on Piano only , the sound quality does not seem as nice as the original with the DKC-55RCD

5. There is no "CD CONTROL UNIT" plug on the back of the 850 like on the 55RCD thus a cbale goes unplugged..

Any help appreciated...

I am assuming a few things:

1: You received the rather large 139+ page light blue book "Disklavier Control Unit DKC-850" Operation Manual. It came with my 850.
2: You received the 8 page "Disklavier Control Unit DKC-850 Suspension Bracket for Grand Pianos Installation Manual" AND NEW BRACKET and screws!!! It came in a separate box with mine!
3: Among other things, (Listed on page 1 of blue 139 page Operation Manual) you should have: a remote control, 2 MIDI cables, 1 audio cable -stereo mini plug, 2 audio cables -phone plug, 1 CONVERSION CABLE, AC Adaptor.

On page 8 of blue Installation book you will see the CONVERSION CABLE connecting between "OLD" control cable and 850. I did NOT need MIDI cables at all (I have Acoustic C3 Piano and replace a Mark III DV.)
My C3 piano has an amplifier hidden under sound board that goes to the piano's speakers. I connected the 2 supplied RCA cables with phone plugs from the RCA outs on 850 to Amp's female phone jacks.
Did NOT use CD control unit cable at all. Did NOT use MIDI cables. Only other cable used was the ETHERNET cable to connect to Apple Airport Express for connection to house wireless network and ultimately the Internet Radio.

Don't use metronome but it is on page 58 of book along with volume control. The XG tone generator is on page 60 relating to Ensemble voice. Don't use much.

Again I am using Acoustic Piano. But once installed all seemed to be as it was with the MARK III . There are more experienced people on this WEB but I tried to help.

Hope this helps a bit

You would set up your unit like a MarkIIIA. There will be lots of cables
you don't use - especially the MIDI cables. The old cable that plugged into
the CD player does not have a place on the new DKC850, so just tie it up
somewhere. There should be a large bracket for the DKC850 in the box with
the control unit. It attaches to the same screws remaining when you remove
the DKC55 - just in other places. There are screws you use that are
included to attach the DKC850 to its new bracket. You use the new cable to
connect the DKC850 into the cable that connected the DKC55.
