Introduction - Disklavier Concert Grand

Introduction - Disklavier Concert Grand

2011-02-16 by soulbill@gmail.com

Hi everyone.

I'm a newbie here and just want to thank you for this list and introduce myself: I'm a composer and the chair of the music department at St. Ambrose University (Davenport, Iowa) and we are the proud owners of a new Disklavier Mark IV Concert Grand Piano. We received it just before the academic year started, and have used it for everything you would expect: concerts, master classes, lessons, etc., including a well attended concert & workshop with George Litterst and Shania Kirk. Its a great instrument and we're looking forward to finding ways to use it more. One of the things I'm doing with it is recording a CD of original music using the disklavier's record function. The plan is to pre-record on disk, and only have to call in the sound engineer for a couple hours of recording. That CD will be done next month and I'm very excited. If you're interested, you can check out my blog about the CD here: http://williamcampbellmusic.blogspot.com/

Today I'm hoping to get my new iphone app to control the piano; I'm leading a composition workshop this weekend and want to show the students some of the cool things one can do with the instrument. Plus I'm a total geek with this new phone and piano, and what could be more perfect than to get the two to communicate? :)

Thanks for all the great info in this group, and I hope you all have a great day.

Bill,

It would be wonderful if you would considering using the user group to upload a few sample midi files of your work. It would be great to be able to play your work through our own piano instead of our sound system.

I would be interested in purchasing any midis that you might produce for the Mark IV.

Wow!
Thanks for all the messages to yesterday's post, and for those who visited the blog that I linked to in my message. I feel most welcome, and I'll certainly post some MIDI files to the user group when I get closer to the CD release date. One of my goals is to publish this music in three formats – audio, music (notation), and MIDI file. That way Mr. Brandom and anybody else who'd like to practice a song can read the music, watch and listen to their piano play the song, and listen to it on their iPod. That may be too much Campbell though...
:)
Have a great day.
Peace,
~Bill Campbell
