Carol - what happened to your web site? I was on it last week (Monday?), and today when I went to look for it, it was not there. Are you redesigning it or something? (I have an exchange daughter who has an I-pod and who just downloaded the Disklavier application, and we were going to look at your site for helpful hints!) Shelley

It's still there. For some reason people have been having trouble getting on it lately. Maybe I need to change hosting plans. Try a different browser.

The DreamHost customer who owns carolrpt.com has not yet uploaded their website or has chosen to leave this holding page active.
If you are the owner of this domain, you'll find your login information contained within the emails sent to you when your account was activated. Once logged in, you';ll be able to delete this page (quickstart.html) and begin uploading your new site.
Also, here are some helpful links for getting started!
On both Firefox and MS IE explorer.
It is something with the DNS and the "domain name".
Someone stoled it!

I really don't understand why some people have trouble accessing my website. This has been reported to me many times in the past 2 months. Every computer in my household as well as family and friend's computers have no trouble accessing the site. The site has been hosted for years through Yahoo GeoCities and also backed up on a Dreamhost server. Every now and then I mess with some Dreamhost settings because I host a number of other websites on my account. Maybe I messed up something.

The web has changed also in the past 6 months, especially the search engines. Internet Explorer with Google became unusable on my computer so last week I switched to Google Chrome with Bing as a search engine. Everything works much better and faster, but Chrome will not open a password protected PDF file. Bing also shows my website on the first page; could not find my own website using Google in the first 15 pages!!All I can say is that http://www.carolrpt.com is alive and well at the location it has lived for years. I know it needs updated, but if you have a pre MarkIV Disklavier you may find the site useful. Perhaps searching on "MIDI Player Tools" would help.Carol BeigelOn Mon, Feb 14, 2011 at 12:16 AM, Shelley Bacon <shelleybacon@...> wrote:

I can't access it directly from my computer. I can access it using a translator like Babelfish. It's almost certainly a DNS issue, where some folks are getting bad DNS information and getting routed to the wrong server, and other folks are getting the right DNS information. It's not a browser issue at all.

Good morning, everyone. I concur with Jack. Carol, I suggest that you contact either your website host or your domain name registrar or both and see what they can do to straighten out the DNS issue. DNS stands for Domain Name System. There are lots of DNS servers on the Internet. When you attempt to visit a webpage in a browser, your browser talks to one of these DNS servers (usually designated by your Internet service provider), and asks the server what the number address (i.e. IP address) is for the domain that you are attempting to access. In other words, the DNS server is like a big telephone book that associates names with numbers. For some reason, there are some incorrect numbers floating around out there. Although I don't know for sure, I suspect that your domain registrar is responsible for insuring that these lists are correct. Regards, PianoBench www.georgelitterst.com www.timewarptech.com

Hi Carol, I'm using Safari on a Mac. When I try to access your web site I get the message "Safari can't open the page. Too many redirects occurred when trying to open "http://www.carolrpt.com/". This might occur if you open a page that is redirected to open another page which then is redirected to open the original page." Hope this helps. Hi Carol,
I'm using Safari on a Mac. When I try to access your web site I get the message "Safari can't open the page. Too many redirects occurred when trying to open "http://www.carolrpt.com/". This might occur if you open a page that is redirected to open another page which then is redirected to open the original page." Hope this helps.

Looking at this from both my work computer and my home computer,
I see what might be the problem.
At work, www.carolrpt.com resolves (by DNS) to the IP address:
68.180.151.75
which is a yahoo IP address, and the site displays normally.
At home, www.carolrpt.com resolves (by DNS) to the IP address:
67.205.48.205
which is a dreamhost IP address, and the site doesn't work.
Looks like yahoo is serving the website up correctly, and dreamhost is
not. Whether people get directed to yahoo or dreamhost when they access
the website seems to be somewhat random, I guess, probably
because both yahoo and dreamhost are listed as name servers for the
domain. On 2/16/2011 2:20 PM, JORGE FERNANDEZ wrote: > > > Sorry Carol, yesterday it worked fine, today I have the same problem > mentioned by Carl (Windows and Firefox) > > Hummm.... > > 2011/2/16 <ejduke2000@... <mailto:ejduke2000@...>> > > I have the same problem with Chrome. > ED > > > > > -----Original Message----- > From: Carl S <scandella@... <mailto:scandella@...>> > To: disklavier <disklavier@yahoogroups.com > <mailto:disklavier@yahoogroups.com>> > Sent: Wed, Feb 16, 2011 4:18 am > Subject: [disklavier] Re: Carol - your web site? > > Hi Carol, > > I'm using Safari on a Mac. Well, I did mess with it a day or ago and did redirect the site. I will try something different tonite. Either a mirror or just remove it from Dreamhost and ho back to just the geocities host
Sure wish I knew what I was doing.

Hello everyone, Jack is correct. The site is being resolved to 2 separate IP addresses. The .75 one works and the .205 one does not. I used an online worldwide DNS lookup tool to help understand the problem from a more global perspective. http://www.just-dnslookup.com/index.php?vh=www.carolrpt.com&c=&s=dns+lookup! Of the 53 worldwide DNS servers this site checks against across the world, we get the following results: - 28 resolve to the .75 address (this Yahoo site works as Jack has highlighted) - 23 resolve to the .205 address (this Dreamhost site does not work) - 2 DNS servers are erroring Web users around the world will get different results depending on which backend DNS server is resolving the ip address. Regards, Michael Weinstock Melbourne, Australia

Thank you for your help. The instructions say to not mess with Advances DNS records but somehow I did anyway. I changed the mail server to Google a few years ago and tonight I just pushed the default setting on the Yahoo webhosting plan. No more Dreamhost servers. Hopefully this will solve the problem. I have always felt it was not a good idea to have all your eggs in one basket so I maintain two webhosting accounts on different servers. So much has changed over the years. The yahoo webhosting is, or was and probably still is, Windows based. The Dreamhost is Apache based. Each company has offered different features over the years and learning to keep up with all that is available has been very challenging. Let me know if things get all messed up again and thanks again for your help! Carol --- In disklavier@yahoogroups.com, Michael Weinstock <mweinstock@...> wrote:
