Change from Floppy to Disk Drive??

Change from Floppy to Disk Drive??

2011-07-19 by Alan

I have a 14 year old Yamaha Disklavier DC III with the early pianosoft 3.5" floppy drive. Can I purchase and fit a later disk drive???

Re: [disklavier] Change from Floppy to Disk Drive??

The current drive supplied by Yamaha is a newer version of the one you have, but it will perform exactly the same as your current one - unless your current one has problems.

To bring your piano up to a similar specification as the current E3 series (inc. USB ports, CD drive, internet/network connectivity and iPhone/iPod/iPad compatibility), you could replace your existing DKC controller with the DKC850. Details can be found at http://usa.yamaha.com/products/musical-instruments/keyboards/disklaviers/grand_pianos/dkc-850/?mode=model

E3/Mark IV "Remote Live" Beta Testers Wanted (US ONLY)

2011-07-20 by Bill Brandom

Yamaha is testing a new broadcast service called "Remote Live" where you can receive an audio and video stream of a performance taking place somewhere in the world and have the keys on YOUR Disklavier move in perfect sync as they are played by the performer who may be thousands of miles away! This exciting technology was first shown at the Winter NAMM 2011 Show and Yamaha has been conducting test broadcasts in the US and refining this service since then.
They are at a point where they'd like to expand the number of beta-testers (receiving stations) so if you own an E3 or Mark IV Disklavier, meet the following criteria and are interested in participating, they'd like you to apply. These tests are limited to those living in the US. In order to receive a broadcast, you need
  • An E3 or Mark IV Disklavier located near a wall (LAN) Internet Jack (DKC-850 is NOT compatible with Remote Live)
  • High speed Internet Service and a router (or switching hub) with two available LAN ports
  • A laptop computer
  • Be willing to provide feedback to Yamaha after each performance
If you meet the above criteria and would like to be considered as a beta-test receiver, please go to the following website and fill out the application. If your application is accepted, you'll receive additional information from Yamaha about how to set things up and get ready for the broadcasts. There are a limited number of spots available, so if Yamaha is unable to add you immediately, rest assured they will try to do so as soon as they possibly can.

The next broadcast is Yamaha's very first "Worldwide Test" featuring Mr. Bruce Stark, a American composer/pianist who was born in San Diego, but is now living in Tokyo, Japan. (http://brucestarkmusic.com/). Bruce will perform FOUR different 30 minute performances … Live from Tokyo Japan!

Date: Tuesday, August 2, 2011
Showtimes: East Coast: 8:00 PM, 8:45 PM, 9:30 PM, 10:15 PM
West Coast: 5:00 PM, 5:45 PM, 6:30 PM, 7:15 PM

I hope you're able to "tune in!"
PS: Everything is prepared for setting up interested E3 owners right away. Mark IV owners may need to wait approximately 7 days (until all documentation is finalized).

Curious why the DKC-850 which has now been upgraded to the 3.1 firmware does not work? I thought it basically had the same features as the E3.

Good morning, everyone.

Another curiosity is that following the 3.1 upgrade, the DKC-850 still does not support all of the Pro features of the Mark IIXG Pro and the Mark III Pro. This means that in many important respects, the DKC-850 is actually a downgrade for Disklavier Pro owners.

PianoBench

I also have an old disklavier with a floppy drive that I would love to update to a more modern system at some point. If you ever find out a way to do this, let me know.

I would seriously check out the Yamaha DKC-850 upgrade unit. Do a search on here for some details or go to the yamaha site and get the specs. I'm very happy with mine.

Sadly this is true and was very disappointed in this discovery. Besides the E-Competition and a few songs I recorded myself, I have practically NO PRO songs to play on my amazing piano :-(
If anyone has some resources to find other Pro music, I'd sure love to learn about those.

Thanks

Maybe that new Virtuoso series of albums could be released in dual formats - XP mode for Pro, and non-XP for standard Disklaviers, assuming those recordings were made on a Pro to begin with...?

Yes, there is the Control Unit "DKC-850" specialy made for Mark II XG and Mark III Disklavier.

So, you will have a cd-rom, USB/flash and new floppy drives.

I think he wants to just change the floppy drive to a newer one.. not
change the whole control unit
