FIL ESEQ files and Disklavier DKC-850

I have Disklavier with DKC-850 module. I downloaded FIL and ESEQ files from http://www.kuhmann.com/Yamaha.htm to usb stick. when I try to playback these files on my instrument it does not work. What might be wrong?

Did you first un-zip the files and copy those to the USB stick? Which item did you download and I'll try as well. I have the 850 and have not had any problems using the usb port.

Thank you very much for reply. Actually I have a lot of files with extension FIL downloaded from the site and I have not done any unzip actions on them on my Mac. Should I do it? DKC module have seen these FILs but denies to playback them.

Sorry, I'm not familiar with MAC's, but when I download one of the files, I know I have to un-zip it which creates the playable version. If I just open the downloaded file, I can see what files are included, but that's only a function of windows. I still need to unzip them to copy to the USB drive before they will play. Can you tell me one of the files, and I'll download it?

Any modern version of MacOSX handles zip files automatically, and IIRC Safari will automatically extract the zip once the download is complete (I use Chrome, I've never been able to get on with Safari).

Good morning, everyone.

Ray, I think that your problem is related to the fact that the Mac copies invisible files to the flash drive that look like the song files you want to play. For example, if you copy:

001-AFIN.FIL

to the flash drive, you'll actually get two files on the drive:

._001-AFIN.FIL
001-AFIN.FIL

The file name of the first file starts with a period. This should tell the operating system that it is an invisible file. On the Mac, it is invisible, which is why you don't realize that it is there. Regrettably, the Disklavier ignores the period and shows the file in the list. Because it is not an actual song file, the Disklavier will fail to play it.

In the case of the Jazz Disklavier folder of files, if you copy them from your Mac to a flash drive, the Disklavier will see a long list of files that begin with a period. Below that list will be a bunch of files that have actual song names. These the are song files that you want to play. The Disklavier is smart enough to realize that they have embedded song names, and it shows you the song names instead of the file names.

To see what I am talking about, start with a blank flash drive and copy just one song file to it. Your Disklavier will show you two files, one that plays and one that doesn't.

The best way to avoid this confusion on the Mac is to install a Mac Preference Pane called BlueHarvest:

BlueHarvest will keep your flash drives free of these annoying and unnecessary invisible files.

PianoBench
