I uploaded a schematic that does what Dana described. I just hacked it out by hand as that is all the time I had right at the moment. I did not put the component values on there. But, that is easy enough. They can vary some depending on the size of the pots in the joystick you find to use. R1 and R2 are optional if the joystick pot is large enough. Dana asked for zero when the joystick returned to center. So, I put in trim pots to adjust that. I put in X and Y range pots so you could adjust the output. The range of this control depends on the size of the other resistors selected. The range control can be omitted and set to any range by the feedback resistor. There are MANY ways to design a joystick circuit. This is just one example that is dirt simple and cost almost nothing. Like most modules, most of the money is in the mechanical parts, the PCB, the panel, the knobs. You can make something this small on a little $2 protoboard as a one-off. Sorry for the DIY content for those not interested. But, the potential for these to become dot com format available is certainly a possibility.
