Cynthia,

Can you explain why a Zeroscillator is insanely expensive. I can by 4 dotcom VCOs for the price of 1 Zeroscillator. What justifies the cost?

1-Exponential FM
2-Linear Through-Zero FM
3-Linear FM Dynamic Depth Modulation
4-Bi-Phasic Waveform Morphing
5-Pulse Width Modulation
6-Variable Sync (from none to hard synch)
7-Time Reversal

& a 4 quadrant multiplier

I’m not saying this justifies it but if you compare the two, at least with the original ZO, there are probably almost 4 times the parts in the ZO compared to the Q106. Both are excellent VCOs IMHO but quite different beasts.

That is certainly one metric of the cost of the unit. I am wondering what sets this module apart, why would I spend this much for a VCO, what can it do that a standard VCO can't. Do you own any of Zeroscillators?

Thanks

Harold

Hi Harold,

I used to have one but it was one of the things I sold somewhat recently to try to stay afloat financially. L Here is a demo I did of it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kAlMt42g8U8

I think the “through zero” FM is the main thing is does but it does a whole lot more. It has quadrature outputs too (outputs at 4 different phases which can be very useful for modulating other modules etc). It’s stable tuning range was finicky and limited, maybe a few octaves so if you are looking to play in-tune across an 8 octave keyboard a different VCO might be better.

Thanks for the info. By the way, I am a big fan of your videos. I have learned quite a bit from them.
