Fixed Filter Bank

Fixed Filter Bank

2006-10-20 by Dana Countryman

Question:

Who currently sells the best Fixed Filter bank?

I sold my Dotcom FFB, and was wondering about the Modcan one...
Don't think MOTM has one yet....

Hi Chuck --
I hadn't noticed that - thanks! Funny, too, because I just bought the
Plan B Model 15 Oscillator. Hope to test it out this weekend.
I've been looking for an oscillator with a bit more 'grit', and I
have high hopes that this will do the trick.
If it does, I'll make up a Dotcom panel for it, and sell off one of
my Dotcom Osc's. I already did a design for the panel, so again, I'm
hopeful.

What do *you* use for a FFB?

RE: [dotcomformat] Fixed Filter Bank

The Moog one is always highly spoken of. Its design involved inductors, and
I guess the insides of an old Moog Fixed Filter Bank looked like an old tube
radio, full of coils. Obviously that's out.

Peter Grenader's offering a very interesting-looking new model:

http://www.ear-group.net/model_16.html

"12 bank voltage controllable filxed filter bank with: Non attenuated
outputs per filter; Voltage controllable gain of each of the eight filters;
Voltage controllable bandwidth varies from std FFB to vocorder resolution;
Voltage controllable band Sweep function ...

The Bridechamber has one coming out in MOTM format, soon to be followed
by DotCom. The panels are being made right now. It is a 3U module with
6 bandpass filters (or was in 4U w/ 8 filters... can't remember!) Each
one has Freq, Bandwidth and Level pots, Input and Output jacks. All
Outputs are normalled to a mixer, which is summed at Output 6. All
Inputs are normalled to the next, so you don't need multiples to patch
a filterbank. An expander is planned, w/ CV Frequency and VCAs. So you
can use it as a fixed filter bank, 6 independent bandpass filters, or
any combination thereof. Send your VCO's sawtooth's harmonics out to
six different delays!

I'll keep the group posted of all DotCom modules coming out, and
apologize for the delay :)

I had a dotcom FFB as part of a 44-space system, but sold the system. I
don't currently have an FFB but I'm very interested in the PlanB item.

Re: [dotcomformat] Re: Fixed Filter Bank

Now that I'm thinking about it, if it's not 8 filters, I should stop my
metal guys and make it so!
The CGS Event Sequencer (he calls it a Switch Matrix, I think) would be
an ideal companion -- you could then sequence through 8 bandpass
responses! Fun!
