FS: dotcom format punk rawk modules

yeah so i've been building some stuff, and to build more stuff, some of what i've already built must be sold to buy more parts to build more stuff. it's like that cocaine commercial in the 80s, but having nothing to do with drugs and with synth modules instead. lead fumes notwithstanding. all the pics are in this directory: http://suitandtieguy.com/ebay/ diy_or_die_modules/ yeah ... that's right: "DIY or die!" well okay so that's not really to be taken literally but some of us here (myself included) have roots in the rock of punk (or what was left of it in central IL in 1995), and really there's nothing more punk rock than purple spray paint on repurposed aluminum moog-format panels with silver paint marker labels. the front of these things may be "Never Mind the Bullocks", but the backside is all "Sandinistas!" ... no Spactrol pots here, but the trimmers are Bourns ... the jacks are Switchcraft 111s, and the pots are Alphas. my assembly skills are open to debate but i have been using them for a couple weeks and they seem to work fine. the VCF needs to have it's scaling calibrated but anyone with an oscillator (as in, someone who is not me) should have this thing calibrated in about 96 seconds or so. the VCA has a couple of bias trims that could be played with as well. there are 4 modules altogether: Ray Wilson dual VCA - $125 this is a pair of VCAs with initial gain control, lin/log toggle, CV input, and signal i/o per channel. the board will accommodate a second CV input on both channels but i wasn't sure if i'd have room for it on the back end. maybe next time. i am least happy with the wiring on this: it's a bit of a rat's nest. however it seems to work fine. WARNING: feeding fullscale audio from a CR-8000 into one channel, cranking the initial gain all the way for distortion, feeding the signal out to the filter and back into the other channel will result in low-level crosstalk on that final output channel. not using half of this VCA as a distortion pedal for your drum machine because you're a cheap bastard that won't buy an Arion guitar pedal and then the other half to attenuate it will prevent that crosstalk. Ray Wilson EG - $125 this is an ADSR with a pushbutton manual trigger, "much slower" toggle, gate input, and envelope output. the total throw of the envelope is 5v but if you clip the resistor i have on the output (it's right there on the back of the jack) the envelope will go up to 10v if you're into that sort of thing. Ray Wilson 4-pole VCF - $175 this is pretty hot: it's a 4-pole VCF with VC resonance! the controls are cutoff, regeneration, and CV3 attenuation (labeled "FM" for some reason), and the i/o is CV1, CV2, FM, regeneration CV, audio input, and audio output. it's also purple: why wouldn't you want it? Moog CP-style filters and passive ring modulator - $125 this is a pair of Moog control panel style filters (the passive switched-cap ones) and a passive ring modulator. no i did not use Jensen transformers, but i did spend a few hours matching the diodes: i can tell you that they are all "333" diodes, which i hear is the mark of quality ring modulation. the filters were built to the schematic from the Moog service manual, and then one of the values on the HPF was adjusted (i think it was that one, i did this like back in January) because i didn't hear any change at the first step. or something. this module may not be for you. full details on the source boards used on the Ray Wilson modules are at http://www.musicfromouterspace.com feel free to email privately with any shipping questions or build criticisms. thanks much, --- Suit & Tie Guy www.suitandtieguy.com
