I don't know if anyone has mentioned this before in this thread, but a good tip for booming and hard Bass Drums is to actually layer two Bass Drums. One with a longer decay to take up more space in the mix and fill it up good with bass (this would go lower in the mix), the other with more attack and a quicker release, to give it punch.
