If you upgrade your MD to UserWave, you could load any kick you
wanted in it.

yea but yer gunna want a 16 bit wav...the best kicks for psy nowadays are done in soundforge...:-)

the MD is definately not a psy box. unless u like the finnish style...but even for that it's WAY overkill....it's sequencer isnt' very psyish. and that's the best facet of it.

i CANT wait for the UW upgrade though...!!!!!!! gunna bring the fukcin noise wit dat shit!!!

I wonder if this has anything to do with the Infected Mushroom tutorial.

Re: [elektron] psytrance kick

2005-05-19 by Ryan Ryan

it does create a mean ass kick though. i used to use sh101/pro one made kicks, then switched to using the soundforge for psy cuz the kick is just like thudd so nice. but now i'm realy enjoying some of hte MD kicks...although it's really hard to make a hard kick i'm finding though at times..it's areally a learning proccess i got the machine 2 weeks ago. and to make some good sound.s. gitotta think different about good sounds. or perhaps i need an external mixer.

i can't wait for the UW upgrade though because I KNOW this thing will sound ill once i can load my own sounds in. gunna put in the 909 kick loop, looping the tail end of it. it makes the most killer buzzy kick, like plastikman-fuk!!!!:D i wonder how it'll sound wit hthe retrig. the kick..mm...

and hopefully i can load some good hi hats on the MD, the hi hats r garbage!:-)

Use an external compressor and bust the kick out to one of the
seperate outs.

I like the MD hats just fine..... gotta tweak the right way and use
the internal compression.

I agree. they're sweet shit. especially since you can turn the EFM hats
into a Rhodes piano or a string instrument. :-)

Um, uh... You can't 'think different' and have it sound good 'outta
the box' at the same time. I think it's one or the other. You can
either go with established, common sounds (Amen break, standard
psytrance kick, 303s, etc.) and have to work your ass off to do
something new with that, or you can work your ass off to break new
ground with the Machinedrum and try and do something that people
haven't heard before.

Re: [elektron] psytrance kick

by out of the bxo i mean not requiring external proccessing.

that you can use it JUST it and have it sound good..i.e. outta the box, not requiring aything eles...

Ah, but you can! It's possible to do entire shows just on the
Machinedrum ... now if I can just apply that thinking to the
Monomachine!

Re: [elektron] psytrance kick

2005-05-19 by Ryan Ryan

I found the monomachine was reallly good at this. I really liked the monomachine. i think it sounds a bit higher quality than the MD. does it have different d/a converters?

i really loved the drum sounds on it. i shat out tracks on that thing which is why i picked up this. I think tho i loved the delay most. i HOPE that elektron makes the delay a bit better on the MD with the new upgrade...maybe with ram there's more room to play with delays? ;D i use delasy a lot on my drums and these delays just arent' cutting it...or maybe i'm just not programming em right...:-/ I just cant' get very dubby delays on it...:< the monomachine shat thouse out...

Re: [elektron] psytrance kick

Hats I only use internal compression on.. that *IS* out of the box..
And honestly I've stopped using external compression on the kick
lately.. it's more silky smooth that way and still slices through the
mix.. and I run it through the seperate out. And guess what? It still
slams... just gotta program the right one.

Using the internal compression on everything but the kick yields some
great results.. I hated it until I really dug in and went to town.
Toss in some internal reverb and delay..... mmm tasty.

And yes, the EFM hats are the best. ;)

can u give me some advice on using it proper/ i'm not so good with compressors... they confuse me a little actually...i've never used em relying on my synths/drumamchines to sound really good to not use em. but i'd like to polish some terds to sound amazing. p lease showe me the way!:D

see he's with machine drum! you gotta work that shit.
If you want it sounding good out of the box go get a korg.
if you want to spend time crafting your own sounds geet with MD.

Re: [elektron] psytrance kick

there's some really good tutorials in mags like Future Music/Music
tech/Sound on Sound.
I'm not too sure where but I'm sure you could find some online. I'm
sure someone here will chirp in with some handy links.
Or just mess about with it until you like the sound, write the settings
down, mess it about a bit more, make more notes and see which works
best for you. Don't get high and doo this tho, it will be a very
confusing place when you listen the next morning!

Re: [elektron] psytrance kick

2005-05-20 by Sr. Minimo

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this before in
this thread, but a good tip for booming and hard Bass
Drums is to actually layer two Bass Drums. One with a
longer decay to take up more space in the mix and fill
it up good with bass (this would go lower in the mix),
the other with more attack and a quicker release, to
give it punch. Most of the time, when you hear a BD
full of both punch and boom, you're hearing 2 of them.
