I've never heard of this being an option. in fact, i've heard quite the opposite. I believe that Elektron has a FAQ on their Sidstation site (or perhaps its under the info section) where they specifically state that they know you can get a Sid chip used, but they didn't want to go that route and will only use new Sid chips (thus the reason for selling 100 more Sidstations once they came across 100 more new chips). you can go to ucapps.de and look at the Sid synth there though. it's a DIY option to build your own Sid synth. not exactly a Sidstation, but at least you're using a Sid chip! :-)
