At the company that I ship from (and i've sent many, many pieces of  
gear through them) they weigh and measure , then show a grid on the  
screen of the costs for each of the shipping companies (FedEx, USPS,  
UPS, DHL, Airborne Express)... There was nothing even close to $50.   
The US Postal service would mail it there in 3+ weeks, without  
tracking, for about $80.  Being as we are not able to fully insure  
the gear due to customs fees, sending anything internationally  
without tracking would be insane.

$50 is simply not possible.  I would not have even mentioned the  
shipping cost if it had not been $150 (on Airborne Express) and UPS,  
etc were even more expensive.
