Lol I wasn't talking about preamps and obtaining 120db on analog outputs, but about the resolution of the A/D and D/A converters on sound cards. recording at 24 bits gives you 144db of theoretical dynamic range, but it's more than the analog domain is capable of, and, in real world, most converters give you 100-110 db.
