Different strokes for different folks i suppose,
or in this case dif thumps for different bumps? 

It all depends on what type of kick i am trying to create.....
I find creating an 808 sounding kick on the MD too be very deep and thumpy, where as other times I have a problem creating just the right oomph, either way, I cant make a blanket statement either way whether the MD has a fierce enuff kick or not. It is obviously a very flexible drum machine/sampler and I believe it is the composer which must tailor it to his or her needs as they see fit...

man i dodged that question... hopefully...
I am curious what others think as well...

  It's 100% entirely you.  The MD thumps somethign fierce IMO, try
  playing with the EQ and hi pass filter with heavy amounts of res.
