I would not trust any plugins that just promise to make the sound big.
I used the sonic maximizer on one sound and it made weird peak sounds 
all over the frequence spectrum. You couldn\ufffdt hear this, but it was 
definitely a problem at mastering.
After i had taken that processed sound out of the mix, the whole song 
could be compressed better and was double as loud afterwards. So it 
turned out that the Maximizer made the contrary of what it was supposed 
to do.

Anyway, I think the internal compressor of the MD is not so bad to 
"melt" the drums together.I haven\ufffdt compared it directly to a plugin or 
other compressor but you can definitely get your sound that pumping effect.
