Re: [elektron] The sidstation is fucking weak -- a detailed explanation.

2001-12-09 by Steven Henry

This is all very true.

On the sidstation poster it promotes the synth as being built on the
experience of the hacker scene.. though most of the ideas it incorporates
were intended to be used with the original SID design anyway. The sidstation
hardware itself is capable of so much more but at the moment i'm hoping
updates have only been stalled because of the machine drum release.

When i bought my first sidstation I took it for granted that a multiple midi
channel mode would be in the next os. unfortunately I'm still using it for
leads and orchestral sounds, and i need two to get the thumping C64 beats I
originally wanted.

As well as the points put forward by Anthony i would have liked to have seen
like to see a memory upgrade, and possibly a sampler function (over sysex).

And again.. I wouldn't own two sidstations if i didn't like them, i still
favor the over hardsid and my commodore because it has knobs on its
hardware, and i don't really want the bother of carrying my computer (or my
commodore) around.. I worry though. Has the sidstation been completely
abandoned? I don't like the prospect of waiting another one and a half years
just to be given another patchbank.
