Weird oscillator sync feature

2000-02-21 by Gisle Martens Meyer

Hello,

I am trying to create a sync-sound. But there is a peculiar thing about
it:
-Oscillator 1 and 3 is off.
-Oscillator 2 is on, and LFO 1 is pitch modulating it with a slow ramp.
-When Sync is turned off, this results (ofcourse) in a slow pitch raise.
-When I turn on Sync for Osc 2, so it is synced to osc1, the classic
sync sound appears.

However, no matter what note I press, the same pitch is output!

Then I turn ON Osc 1, and I can now play the synced sound up and down
the keyboard. It gives me almost the same sounding result, except I can
hear Osc 1 aswell on top of the sync Sound . Should it really be like
this? I would really like to hear only the synced waveform by itself.

I suppose I can set Osc 1 attack/decay time to 0 and sustain level to 0
so it will be silent. But then there is nothing (only silence) to sync
with?

I thought that when turning off Osc 1, you are only turning off the
OUTPUT of this oscillator.
It is still available for syncing and ringmodulating.

I am not a synth programming wizard (yet). What am I doing wrong / have
I misunderstood?

Thanks for any insight,
Gisle
