I was just wondering about that myself.  Just got my MD the other day,
and am thoroughly impressed with it, but thanks to the knobs, it is a
bit too 'tall' to fit where I had planned to put it.  Depending on the
length of the knob stems, shorter knobs might address this issue for me.
I gave a couple of the knobs a gentle pull, but they didn't seem
inclined to come off.
