yes it's just a poll, at the end of the day it's only 15 answers or
so... you can't really judge a poll on 15 answers... that's not really
representative anyway isn't it ?

but I agree with you. That PI is wicked, the maracas sounds plain
weird, but the E12 is also very good.

I received my MD 2 weeks ago and I was really disappointed by the TRX,
which to me sounds like an 808 but in a "canned" plastic way. dont get
me misunderstood, what I mean is an 808 has got an analogue
"unpredictable" edge as well, which the MD does NOT have.

but man, the E12 and PI altogether can make some great sounds ! really
I am not a big fan of the EFM stuff, as it sounds to much like cheesy
80's drum sounds but I have not explored it extensively yet. I'll leave
that for late nights over the next weeks or so :-)

all the machines are basically good, but what makes them stand out is
the effects and modulations really, and the way these are integrated in
the sound generation logic. the extended mode and all that sort of
things.

Special mention for the SRR (sample rate reduction) it just sounds
great if you keep it "tamed" below 15 I'd say, it's really musical, if
you like your beats crisp and dirty at the same time, it's your
thing... higher settings are a bit harsh and not usable for my kind of
music. I've heard many SRR and this is the first one I hear that does
NOT need additional filtering behind it. I mean some SRRs add so much
aliasing that they are just not usable.

IMO as it stands today, and as far as future OSes are concerned, I
believe that the sound generation side of things does not have much to
benefit from. it's just there, it works great and it sounds great.

it's the sequencer that needs more elaborate functionalities, but I'm
not quite sure it's really feasible.

eg :

different time signatures. (that trick of setting up the number of
steps just does NOT work if you slave the MD to an external sequencer)

time-offset parameter (positive and negative) for each machine
(allowing creation of real grooves rather than frozen "swing" grooves)

and some useful functions eg

copy-paste master effect section from one kit to another...

just my odd 2p
