Sorry, I was too late to submit to the poll. But I am amazed........ For me, the best machine is easily the P-I and it's the only machine whose sounds I cannot replicate with any other synth that I own. I can produce much better FM percussion than the EFM machine on the Waldorf Q as the Q has much fatter oscillators than the Elektron as well as more complex routing and a wide choice of possible waveforms. Any VA synth can produce similar sounds to the TRX machine (but with greater hassle admittedly). Why did no one vote for the P-I machine? Just interested....... --- In elektron-users@yahoogroups.com, elektron-users@yahoogroups.com wrote:

Why did no one vote for the P-I machine? >Just interested....... yes it's just a poll, at the end of the day it's only 15 answers or so... you can't really judge a poll on 15 answers... that's not really representative anyway isn't it ? but I agree with you. That PI is wicked, the maracas sounds plain weird, but the E12 is also very good. I received my MD 2 weeks ago and I was really disappointed by the TRX, which to me sounds like an 808 but in a "canned" plastic way. dont get me misunderstood, what I mean is an 808 has got an analogue "unpredictable" edge as well, which the MD does NOT have. but man, the E12 and PI altogether can make some great sounds ! really I am not a big fan of the EFM stuff, as it sounds to much like cheesy 80's drum sounds but I have not explored it extensively yet. I'll leave that for late nights over the next weeks or so :-) all the machines are basically good, but what makes them stand out is the effects and modulations really, and the way these are integrated in the sound generation logic. the extended mode and all that sort of things. Special mention for the SRR (sample rate reduction) it just sounds great if you keep it "tamed" below 15 I'd say, it's really musical, if you like your beats crisp and dirty at the same time, it's your thing... higher settings are a bit harsh and not usable for my kind of music. I've heard many SRR and this is the first one I hear that does NOT need additional filtering behind it. I mean some SRRs add so much aliasing that they are just not usable. IMO as it stands today, and as far as future OSes are concerned, I believe that the sound generation side of things does not have much to benefit from. it's just there, it works great and it sounds great. it's the sequencer that needs more elaborate functionalities, but I'm not quite sure it's really feasible. eg : different time signatures. (that trick of setting up the number of steps just does NOT work if you slave the MD to an external sequencer) time-offset parameter (positive and negative) for each machine (allowing creation of real grooves rather than frozen "swing" grooves) and some useful functions eg copy-paste master effect section from one kit to another... just my odd 2p ===== ************************************************ Oli&Ola - Just A Little Bit Of Jazz - Out Now !! available in all good record shops in London, Paris or direct order from Hard To Find Records http://www.htfr.com/more-info/?catno=MR97553 ************************************************ ___________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? -- Une adresse @... gratuite et en fran\ufffdais ! I¹m trying to figure out how to make this kick drum sound that goes: Vwoomp-ah, wvoompa It seems to be a fairly common sound in club tracks, so I¹m hoping that my description isn¹t too vague. I tried doing it with delay, but that¹s not quite it. Any ideas? Thanks! _______________________________________________ W. Brent Latta :-: wbl@... Haha, could you sing it and make an MP3 ? You could check the following possibilites: 1. use a small reverse reverb on the kick. 2. use a 2nd kick drum with less attack and place it after the main Kick Flo -----Urspr\ufffdngliche Nachricht----- Von: W. MMwaap dududu duMwaap haha , but serious you need to use an LFO (ramp like) on at least the volme, maybee another one one the distortion, and to make it real fat pu another one on the decay succes/good luck LecZ

I am also wondering, however, if what you may be referring to is the intentional overuse of attack/release times on a compressor when it is inline with a bass drum track. Have you tried sending your bass drum out one of the individual outputs, then abusing a compressor on a send of that track it to get a sort of pumping or breathing effect to the bass? Or am I way off 'bass' here? :) ---- Best regards, Adam Watson soundwithin www.soundwithin.net

If you want, you can check out at mp3.com/srminimo a track just called Track 5 and let us know if this is the sort of kick you're looking for (it was done in the Machine Drum, by the way) __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Flavio that sound is very close! Maybe not quite so dirty, and not so much delay. Would you mind sharing your settings? The following elektron-users poll is now closed. Here are the final results: POLL QUESTION: Some people want new Machinedrum algorhytmes for distortion, EQ, Filters and SRR (BDR) in MD-OS update. And some dont. If algos are improved this means that earlier kits don't sound same anymore. There has been mentioned of choice of a switch in global menu (where user could choose which way he prefers, old or new algos). If the switch would be added to global menu, this would probably mean, that kits couldn't remember their own position of switch and user should always set it if kit needed the other setting. How would you like algos in MD-update? CHOICES AND RESULTS - Yes I want the new algos, but there has to be a switch some sorf of. , 1 votes, 4.17% - No new algos. No switct either, it would make MD clumsy., 3 votes, 12.50% - I'm not even interested of algos, I want something else., 1 votes, 4.17% - This isn't a proper poll (choices aren't good, doesn't reach people enough or something else is wrong)., 0 votes, 0.00% - Yes I want the new algos and no switch is ok to me., 19 votes, 79.17% For more information about this group, please visit http://groups.yahoo.com/group/elektron-users For help with Yahoo! I think the point is that the number of people who participate in this group is very small compared to the number of people who own the MD. the poll's not representative of what the MD community as a whole would like; but it is representative of what participants to this group would like. and that's all it should be viewed as. That's definitely true that this list is not an accurate representation of the MD community. But I still agree that the distortion on the MD sucks. It's more like a cheap volume boost. As for SRR vs. BRR, I've never heard BRR, and I kind of like the subtleties you can get from the SRR. --- In elektron-users@yahoogroups.com, Joe <jmelnyk@c...> wrote: > On Sat, Feb 21, 2004 at 04:49:50PM -0600, aeon wrote: > > but in a way, it is...if it matters to people, they > > vote. just like in an election, if you choose not to > > vote, please do the rest a favor and refrain from > > whining about the outcome. > > those who cared, voted...and those are the results. > > I think the point is that the number of people who participate in this > group is very small compared to the number of people who own the MD. > the poll's not representative of what the MD community as a whole would like; > but it is representative of what participants to this group would like. and

I was thinking of the TRX-B2, since I have a nice pattern going with that sound :) But since several entries used this machine, it would be refreshing with something new. You set a pretty high bar when you entered, but I think that inspired everyone to work harder. I know it kicked me in the butt! I think the one-vote poll structure makes for strange results, since you can't vote for first, second, third choice.. as for me, I just voted for what I thought was the currently most underrated entry at the time, micabeza's, because it didn't seem right for it to have 0. I wish I could have voted for more - all the patterns were creative and interesting. Here goes with the EFM-BD for next month.. -Andrew D. > I was thinking of the TRX-B2, since I have a nice pattern going with > that sound :) But since several entries used this machine, it would > be refreshing with something new.
