Re: [elektron] OS 1.12b crashes or not ?

2003-05-08 by simon leclerc

Hi Synchro1,

Thanks you for the offer, really nice.
However i'm very far from you, i'm in
Montreal.

But it seems like there could be an electrical
problem in my set-up. It has happened to me
once. that could very well be it. Also, we loose
power very often in my buliding, maybe there
is a slight variation in the power force that the MD can't
take. OR the MD is the one too many unit in
my electrical set-up.

After connecting the MD in a second power source
it continued to crash. BUT, this morning i took
it to my bedroom with just headphones and it
DID NOT crash for 30 minutes :):):)

I just have to figure out what is the problem
in my set-up, i think it'S time for
an complete overall verification of all things connected.

Thanks for your help guys,

Simon

Simon,

I have not been paying much attention through this so perhaps I've
missed some critical information. And I am too lazy to go back and
read through the archives.

I've had my MD since they first became available in the US, serial
number in the low 2 digits. I have never had a "crash" and perhaps
we should define exactly what that is on your machine. Total
freeze? Non-responsive to buttons, knobs? Lights go out? How do
you get around the crash, do you turn off the power switch or what?

Where are you located? Perhaps it would be helpful if someone with a
functional MD could meet up with you and then you could step through
the exact same steps on each machine and see what the differences
are. You could also trade power supplies to see if that is the
issue. I trust during the crashes you have no external devices
connected to audio in or midi ports?

I am in the SF Bay Area in CA if that is anywhere near you and I
would be glad to try to help.

PS - notice some folks added gear lists to this thread. I am an old
fart and have been at this since about 1968 and never sold anything I
bought, so partial current gear includes 2 Synthi AKS, VCS3 Putney,
ARP 2600, Minimoog, Andromeda A6, K5000S, MS2000R, CR-78, Sunsyn, X-
base 09, FS1R, SuperNova II, Virus C, Evolver (love it!), Ob-Xa, EML
101, 200 & 300, MS20, MS50, & SQ 10, OB-12, DX-7, micro-modular, FR-
777, Mobius, MKS-30, MC-202, X-3, ER1, ES1, EA1, Sherman Filterbank,
Kawai X5D, RM1X, and a ton of processing and recording gear. I also
have a large hybrid analogue modular setup with Doepfer, ASys, ASol,
& Blacet -about 160 modules total. It is a horrid addiction and kind
of stupid since I really only use 3 or 4 devices at a time. And I
live about 5 miles from the San Andreas fault line. I made more
music back when I was young and poor and only had an AKS, a minimoog,
and a 4 track tape machine with one crummy echo and reverb. More
gear = less music. These days I seem to spend more time tinkering
and making sounds than trying to compose a complete song.

I *really* like the MD and plan on getting the monomachine just
because I like the mentality of the guys behind the elektron designs.

Gear breaks all the time. I try to stay calm and work through the
solutions slowly. "Life is short and Art is long"
