the compressor on the MD will make your beats "punch" trough a mix and 
give consistency to hats and snares.
try it with short attack, long release, hard knee, hp set so that the 
bd doesn't influence the compressor.

adjust the gain parameter to compensate for the loss of volume.

you won't regret it :-)
