The sequencers in the MD and Fruity are different, but both have 
their advantages. The MD allows parameter locks etc which can liven 
up a basic pattern. Similar results can be achieved in fruity loops 
by automating the synths/samples, but this is much more of a hassle 
IMO.

FruityLoops by itself cannot (not from the versions ive used anyway) 
synthesise its own drum sounds. You are limited to the samples you 
have, and your ability to manipulate them. On the other hand, the 
machinedrum allows deep programmability of sounds using actual 
synthesis (for the most part) and not just samples. In 
expressiveness (as far as sound results go), the MD is far superior 
to FL.

I have used fruityloops in the past, and I currently own a MD. if I 
could choose between the two it would definately be the machinedrum. 
it also depends on your opinions on hardware and software and how 
you will be using them in relation to other gear etc. hope this has 
been of some help.
