no. there's two ways to enter record mode: either press the red
record/copy button and use step programming or press the red and black
(play/clear) button together and enter realtime programming. to exit
either one, you have to press the red button again (actually, to fully
exit realtime record mode, you have to press it twice). at which point,
your pattern changes are recorded.

I'm not sure what you're describing. but by "save new sounds" you mean
saving the kit I assume. and yes, you have to do that when you change
kit sounds. *however* as I said before, if you don't change kits between
a restart, your tweaked (but unsaved) kit will still be the active kit.
and if you change patterns without saving, you can still use the undo
kit (first kit in the list) to recover the old tweaked-but-unsaved kit.

patterns and kits are two different things altogether. kits are the
sounds themselves. patterns are the sequences of kit sounds. kits
correspond to entries 1 through 64 of the kit menu; patterns correspond
to entries A1-A16, B1-B16, ..., H1-H16 of the "pattern selection" menu.

if you're in extended mode, this will happen. in extended mode, kits are
associated with patterns. in classic mode, you can play any pattern with
any kit you choose.

sort of. I wouldn't look at it as two ways to load kits, though. the
first method loads a kit, the second one loads a pattern. if you're in
extended mode, then loading that pattern will also load the kit
associated with that pattern.

I've done it before too. I was just commenting on the issue of changing
the MD to fix this problem; it's been discussed in here before.

I agree on both counts! yes, I have lost work on it too and it *really*
sucks; but I do love it very much.

sorry if it seems like I'm criticizing you; I'm not. I was just confused
about exactly what you were describing and how your data loss could have
occurred. because to me, it seems like the data may very well have been
there when you restarted, you just might have been unsure of how to
access.
