My first Elektron purchase was the MD. I decided based end-user
comments (reviews in publications are nice too but as we all know...).
I had no practical way to audition one. So I ordered after reading
comments like the ones in this group. Sure there were surprises when it
finally arrived, but by far most were of the "wow its better than I
thought!" variety.

Would/will I buy something like the Mono sight unseen and sound
unheard? That's a good question if it refers to being one of the first
100. In Elektron's favor they seem to not only be very bright
developers but they also have their own unique sense of what a musical
instrument should be. The MD shows they could take a mature idea and do
something unique and musically wonderful with it. The Mono is really
them doing something new with the age-old analog sequencer/analog
monosynth combination. My guess is that they have not forgotten what
makes an instrument musical :-)

So for me its not inconceivable. Sure I'd rather go see it in a local
shop, but then again if I did it would probably not be what it is
(compromised for a larger audience of users). I guess I have a short
time to decide.
