ok 1900 right? lets compare: dave smith evolver $475 (superwave?) ion $725 (the VA part of the ion) FS1r $400 (formant + fm) all with fx. I'm trying to figure out what's so radically different. I didn't know it was 24 voices? i keep getting strange information not sure if it's 24 bit. the other stuff seems coool... b to me it's not about how much shit they can shove in... but about making unique sounds. I'm not looking for a comparison. for example, you can't compare a prophet vs and a jupiter 8, they're polyphonic, but both 2 different forms of synthesis. but you can say they both make unique sounds. that neither of them can create. i hope that it can... after the way you described it i think i just pissed maself:o seems great. heheh :) i want more than a sequencer toh!:o i want bizzaro sounds BIZZAROOO!:O -ryan --- In elektron-users@yahoogroups.com, Joe <jmelnyk@c...> wrote: > On Sun, Sep 21, 2003 at 09:35:28PM -0000, hal3001 wrote: > > well this is true. but a well programed VST can sound better than > > the hardware as well. > > but the controls are more than likely not as immediate as the Elektron > ones. the MD, for example, is an incredibly live box; and the MM is > toted as such as well (mine hasn't arrived yet, so I can't say). > > > I'm simply wondering what this synth can do that's different than > > other synths. a 6 voice synth for 1900 is very high priced. so it > > ought to do something spectacular. > > it's not six voices, it's six *tracks* in the sequencer. the press > releases say 24-voice polyphony, but some of the more-recent Elektron > stuff has implied 36 (they said something along the lines of "...have 36 > massive oscillators at your command."). > > there's also 18 LFO's, 6 delay engines and 24 dedicated track effects > that all help to increase its worth. > > > i'm curious to why epople are such elektron freaks?:o > > because their machines are unique and the interface is incredible. for > example, just based on the info Elektron released on the MM, you can't > really compare it to any other synth out there. you would have to > combine at least two machines (or pieces of software) to make a > valid comparison. not many other manufacturers make such unique > products. for example, comparing a Nord to an Access, an Ion or a Nova > are all valid; Elektron's products are not like this so far. > > anyway, this is why I'm excited about Elektron stuff (not to mention the > wonderful sounds themselves, of course). > > Joe
