The SID-chip may be harmed, and you will DEFINITELY see some sort of surface abrasion of the case. Even the Ninja model's black finish will not survive a nuclear explosion unscathed. Also, even if the SID is spared the direct physical effects of a nuclear explosion, chances are high that any corresponding electromagnetic pulse (EMP) will have adverse effects on the subsequent performance of the SID-chip itself and the SIDstation's auxiliary electronics. There are rumours that Elektron has developed an EMP-shielded, battle-hardened, helmet-mounted SIDstation* for military applications, but these rumours are not substantiated. Even this rumoured "military SID" would probably not survive a direct nuclear blast, however, nor would it provide suitable blast protection for its user. * with a VIC-II display chip running video output to an eyepiece display overlay (instead of the LCD), and wrist-mounted controllers, encoder, and keypad -- R.
