patches

2000-06-25 by sid_6581@yahoo.com

there are three things i want to say/ask about the sidstation:

1. i think it is really annoying that you have to press the "D"
keypad when you change to a patch (by number block or by rotary
encoder). when i want to change a patch very quick (e.g. live
sessions) i always have to press "D" when i want the other patch, how
can i change this? (is it able to change this?)

2. the patch memory is too low. i mean, 100 patches is much little,
what if i want to upload the new ninja patches? i have to transfer
all my old patches before i can dump new ones!

3. did you ever read the manual? [page 2, last point] "Avoid nuclear
explosions. The SID-chip might be harmed." Is that a joke? How should
something like that happen????

so, that's all!

sid (hey! i've chosen that name a long time before the sidstation was
released)

agreed...

when are you ever going to have to use more than 100 patches in a session?
that's nutty. transfering patches isn't that hard.

i'm sure it was meant to be a joke... but then again, i'm sure a nuclear
explosion wouldn't be very good for the unit, or any of your other gear.

Nuclear explosions are no joke. The SID-chip may be harmed, and you will
DEFINITELY see some sort of surface abrasion of the case. Even the Ninja
model's black finish will not survive a nuclear explosion unscathed.

Also, even if the SID is spared the direct physical effects of a nuclear
explosion, chances are high that any corresponding electromagnetic pulse
(EMP) will have adverse effects on the subsequent performance of the
SID-chip itself and the SIDstation's auxiliary electronics.

There are rumours that Elektron has developed an EMP-shielded,
battle-hardened, helmet-mounted SIDstation* for military applications, but
these rumours are not substantiated. Even this rumoured "military SID"
would probably not survive a direct nuclear blast, however, nor would it
provide suitable blast protection for its user.
