I guess I didn't explain it well enough :-) sorry about that. the internal tracks are mapped to MIDI note #'s. these can be set in the global menu. their mapping to MIDI note #'s allows you to play the drum parts from an external keyboard or sequencer (or your mpd-16). it also allows you to play other gear from the MD by pressing the track buttons. when you do this, it generates the MIDI note # for that track on the MD's out port. if there is a device listening to the same channel that these notes are being sent on (which is the base channel), then it will respond. so you see that if you're Nord is listening to the MD's base channel, then it will respond to you pressing the track buttons by playing the notes those tracks are mapped to. AND it will play the notes of tracks as those tracks are being trigged internally. so if you map your bass drum to C3 and play it on beats 1 and 4, it will make the Nord play C3 on notes 1 and 4. > i wish there was a way that u could set the midi channel for each > track, or set them off. I only wish for the latter case, since I pretty much do everything internally with the MD. > if i understand correctly the midi machines > correspond to the midi channel by the name, ie midi machine 1= midi > channel 1, midi machine 2= midi channel 2 all the way to 4, the MIDI tracks do correspond to the channel of their name, so you're right there. but there are 16 of those machines, one for each MIDI channel. > becuase > the base channel is only 1-4, right? the channel *span* is four channels. so the MD requires four channels to operate. the base channel is just the first channel in that span. you can change what channels are being utilized. so if you're using 1-4 then 1 is the base channel. if you're using 13-16 then 13 is the base channel. the base channel is what all the track trigs are sent/received on. it's also utilized for parameters of tracks 1-4, tracks 5-8 are on the second channel, etc. Let me know if you need more help, Joe
