I think I've only done that once in the MD; but then I've been very
careful not to do it again :-)  It totally sucks when it happens, though.

I've always thought that a "cut" implementation is better than "clear."
In other words, "cut" data can then be revived with "paste" rather
than going to bit heaven like it does now.  Or, clearing should have
an "are you sure?" type of pop-up window before it clears anything.

Anyway, the best thing with the MnM is to get used to using the "super"
menu for copying/pasting/clearing.  That way, it gives you an extra second
to verify that you've pressed the right button.
