Using a screw driver seems to be a bad idea. Using careful even force with your finger tips seems to me to be the best way. I have to keep this all in mind when I decide to replace my lcd cover (cracked). I think there are about 8 tight solders on the potentometers. I would never think about soldering it myself, unless it's my Fatman. --- In elektron-users@yahoogroups.com, "his_nibbs99" <jezjackson@b...> wrote: > --- In elektron-users@yahoogroups.com, Gene Schwartz <implode7@c...> > wrote: > > > > > > > From: Joe Melnyk <jmelnyk@c...> > > > Reply-To: elektron-users@yahoogroups.com > > > Date: Wed, 26 May 2004 23:46:40 -0400 > > > To: elektron-users@yahoogroups.com > > > Subject: Re: [elektron] oh, I am so stupid > > > > > > > > > On May 26, 2004, at 11:10 PM, Gene Schwartz wrote: > > > > > >> I glanced over at my Machinedrum, and I noticed that one of the > knobs > > >> had > > >> somehow broken clean off. > > A man after my own heart > > This happened to me (but this happened with 4 knobs) > > What I did was try to lift the Knobs off the potentiometers so I > could unscrew the aluminium face plate (there was some dirt behind > the LCD which I wanted to blow out) > > Snap X 4 > > The knobs are extreamly tight on the pot shafts and when I tried to > lift them with two equally spaced flat head screw drivers, they just > Snapped off. > > I am an electrical engineer so I knew this was a case of soldering 4 > new pots with complete shafts to the main board :( > > > emailed elektron support and the guy there was extreamly helpful and > sent me 4 new pots which I have since replaced and all is working > well again. > > Do not atempt to do this if your no good with a pro soldering iron > and a solder pump, otherwise you'll be very upset (not an easy task) > > email "DE" at support he is one helpful guy > > > Jez > > p.s. this is the only complaint I have for the MD the knobs a > fooking awful, to tight to the shafts and cheap looking. how about > some nice pro knobs :)
