I agree with these recommendations... some others to
consider would be a t.c. m300, Lexicon PCM-81,
Kurzweil Rumour, Kurzweil Mangler, Sony DPS-V77...

ultimately, here is what I would recommend: get TWO
units. the first unit should be something like the
t.c. FireworX, Ensoniq DP/4 or Kurzweil Mangler, which
will cover most of the special effects and "grime"
that you're after. the second unit should be something
like a Lex MPX-1, t.c. m300 or Kurzweil Rumour, to be
used primarily for reverbs and delays. 

this is just my thinking based on my own experiences,
but I suspect that if you go with only one unit you
will find yourself wanting to use it for more things
at once than you will be able to. and two units still
isn't overly "bloated" ;-)
