I think it really depends on what kind of music you are doing, and what kind
of system your target audience will be listening to the material on. One
thing I love to do to beef up snares, is layer the snare with a punchy kick
sound, the lightly verb the snare and get into the kick with an EQ and melt
the kick into the snare. Then I usually compress the mult and sample it.
