I think it really depends on what kind of music you are doing, and what kind
of system your target audience will be listening to the material on. One
thing I love to do to beef up snares, is layer the snare with a punchy kick
sound, the lightly verb the snare and get into the kick with an EQ and melt
the kick into the snare. Then I usually compress the mult and sample it.

This is nice idea. I've never thought it that way (I've only layered
snares). Seems like you are working with samples instead of MD.
Nothing wrong with that, I would just like to stay within Md because
I've developed my beats sequencing tricks with it.

What I'm trying to do is something like Aphex twin-style beats (who
isnt nowadays...) with lots of different details. So I'm not after
House-club kicks but would like to do my kicks and snares good anyway.

Toni.

Give that a listen - this is a track I did in 98 (sorry no MD on it)
http://boomboxunited.com/Subreact%20-%20Return%20of%20the%20Moonkiller%20(painflower%20Remix).mp3

But all of the things I am talking about I certianly do with my MD.

I liked it a lot. You did this back in 98? Much respect, you surely
know what you are doing. :)
