Then I usually compress the mult and sample it. This is nice idea. I've never thought it that way (I've only layered snares). Seems like you are working with samples instead of MD. Nothing wrong with that, I would just like to stay within Md because I've developed my beats sequencing tricks with it. What I'm trying to do is something like Aphex twin-style beats (who isnt nowadays...) with lots of different details. So I'm not after House-club kicks but would like to do my kicks and snares good anyway. Toni.
