Have you tried re-loading the entire OS? That may do it, but if it doesnt, then I would suggest it is a hardware issue. Of course you need to eliminate all variables from the function chain - but you say that you have already checked multiple cords and amplifiers, so that seems to indicate that the Sid is indeed at fault. (make sure you have the output plug plugged into the 'audio out' jack - i made a mistake the other day and had it backwards and was really confused for a few seconds.
