try resseting your midi gear i.e midi interface and stuff. i notice that sometime the sid station will no nuts when the midi configuration is not solid and especially if modules or synths are turned off and on. what fixes this is turn everything off and then turning on back everything and always the sid last.. see if that fixes it or else it is not likely a midi problem Eitan Teomi. http://ourworld.cs.com/teomi

i had this same problem with my sid over the summer. i sent it back to elektron and they fixed it. i dont know what was wrong with it. with mine, it was doing the same thing, and when i pressed a different note, it would just change the pitch of the noise. the noise i am talking about is the inherent noise of the sidstation. oh well, hope that helps sam ----- Original Message -----

Hey, In the first weekend of playing with my SID, I ran into a problem similiar to yours. I was programming my SID when it freaked out and the display when nuts. I turned the SID off and turned it back on. It wouldn't get past the startup screen when I try to get to my programs. So, I cleared the memory. I downloaded the system patches from th elektron website using NETSCAPE. I then tried to download the sysex into the SID. It looked like everything was fine (I saw the program titles, etc). But, there was no sound or it made short weird noises. This drove me nuts until I tried to download it with MS Internet Explorer. I remembered that Netscape sometimes downloaded binary files like text (ala it would screw up the file on translation). Anyway, I used the sysex downloaded with explorer and my SID station worked wonderfully. I never use my SID without a surge protector (or something that will keep the voltage steady). It doesn't seem to like the slightest changes in voltage to it. I've yet to have another problem with him! The first weekend I didn't use a surge protector or anything... I also backup my patches pretty damn regularly...=) I don't know if this helps, but I hope it does.... ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Blaine Buxton "You spell Blaine, B-L-A-I-N-E, right?" Have you tried re-loading the entire OS? That may do it, but if it doesnt, then I would suggest it is a hardware issue. Of course you need to eliminate all variables from the function chain - but you say that you have already checked multiple cords and amplifiers, so that seems to indicate that the Sid is indeed at fault. (make sure you have the output plug plugged into the 'audio out' jack - i made a mistake the other day and had it backwards and was really confused for a few seconds. If i recall correctly, the Sid just made noise when I hit a key.) -----Original Message----- From: anthony j. resta <bopnique@...> To: elektron-users@egroups.com <elektron-users@egroups.com> Date: Thursday, January 25, 2001 12:28 PM
