hello anthony,
I had similar symptoms when i blem my sid chip after i overloaded
the input with a heavy dose of feedback(now i'm very wary of routing
anything to the sid, specially through my patchbay). I could only hear
the sid's characteristic noise which seemed to be slightly affected by
playing different notes, the midi light functioned as it was supposed
to as well as the os worked fine. I found myself a junky c64 and
swapped out a sid chip of the 6581 variety, and everything was back to
norml. I emailed elektron about this and they told me what i had
suspected, and recomended that i send it to them to get fixed, they do
not suggest gutting neat old computers like that (though most the pawn
shops i go to tell me their old computer go straight to the chop shop).
I would have had it not been such a hassle, or if anything other than
just replacing the sid chip was in order. Consequently in the process i
fixed up the junky old c64 i got, still looking for a power supply and
disk drive though.
