greetings from bopnique musique: a sci fi mambo lab
at the liquid center of the rhythm factory...

hi ,

i recently (yesterday ) had my sid die on me. It is receiving midi on the
proper channel the light shows midi, but just noise comes out.
i tried erasing the memory and reloading several different full patch
configurations and the led says the programmes are there but still no
sound,
i have changed every possible cable etc....it's like the outputs are
toasted or something. any help, or anyone else having been through this i
would be
grateful for any information regarding this.

i am also sending this to the
support email.

 i am running 1.10 R33 2000 O.S.

thankyou

anthony j.

hello anthony,

I had similar symptoms when i blem my sid chip after i overloaded
the input with a heavy dose of feedback(now i'm very wary of routing
anything to the sid, specially through my patchbay). I could only hear
the sid's characteristic noise which seemed to be slightly affected by
playing different notes, the midi light functioned as it was supposed
to as well as the os worked fine. I found myself a junky c64 and
swapped out a sid chip of the 6581 variety, and everything was back to
norml. I emailed elektron about this and they told me what i had
suspected, and recomended that i send it to them to get fixed, they do
not suggest gutting neat old computers like that (though most the pawn
shops i go to tell me their old computer go straight to the chop shop).
I would have had it not been such a hassle, or if anything other than
just replacing the sid chip was in order. Consequently in the process i
fixed up the junky old c64 i got, still looking for a power supply and
disk drive though.

something else i just remembered. when i was using my dodgy radio
shack psu and the jack would intermitently short out. the patch memory
would get corrupted and it would just freeze upon trying to select
patch mode. you could hear the sid noise, but i do not remember if midi
responded in the main menu. i think someone else mentioned this but,
the only fix is to reset the patch memory.

what's the deal with egroups being sucked up into another
conglomeration? i seem to remember this happening not long ago.
