something else i just remembered.  when i was using my dodgy radio 
shack psu and the jack would intermitently short out. the patch memory 
would get corrupted and it would just freeze upon trying to select 
patch mode. you could hear the sid noise, but i do not remember if midi 
responded in the main menu.  i think someone else mentioned this but, 
the only fix is to reset the patch memory.

what's the deal with egroups being sucked up into another 
conglomeration?  i seem to remember this happening not long ago.
