MID implementation

MID implementation

2001-02-05 by teomi@cs.com

Hi there all.
i've been trying to control the activation/deactivation of the
oscillators in the filters menu through MIDI but i couldn't find in
the Sid Station's MIDI implementation a Controller number that deals
with it...it doesn't even shoe up in the DCTRL menu...

is it possible to somehow control this feature through MIDI??

I don't think that the Resonance can be controlled either... it might
be useful. in fact I found out about it when i REALLY needed it to
one of my patches...

maybe an OS upgrade...should be too hard to implement (hint hint HINT)

please let me know if anyone of you guys have info on this.
thanks in advance,
Eitan Teomi

Believe it or not, the resonance is one of the least dramatic switches
on the whole sidstation! (without feedback) I generally keep at max,
just to get the basic effect....PWM is where all the action is...

The reason is that the SID-chip pops when you reroute channels that go
into the filter.

Yes, through the direct programming SYSEX interface.

I thought noone would be interested. Sorry! :) The resonance is not really
that audible for the SID-chip...

Take look at the allocations of the MIDI-ctrl-messages. All global
messages need to be first. If I add one of these all messages for the
individual oscillators would have to be changed.

The resonance can be controlled through direct program SYSEX as well...

definitely...

i hope to god elektron is planning a new os for the sid. i've had to put
my sidstation recommendation engine in neutral, until some very basic
concerns are addressed, like: UNSTABLE KNOBS(not staying at 127,not precise
enough) and more midi imp.

thats all for my rant

FWIW, I built a midi seq using the 68hc11 cpu (same as sidstation) and used
its internal a/d converters as midi controllers. I found them to be very
unstable... to the point where I did all kinds of averaging and even
gaussian filtering, but the problem is that those a/d converters are just
kind of flaky...

I'm not sure if it's psychologicial but os 1.1 seems to be less flaky
in its controllers than os 1.0. perhaps they improved the filtering or
something. Honestly, though, the only page where it's a problem is on
the envelope page for some reason....I don't usually get values
spontaneously changed on any other pages!

I was goign to agree with this person and say "Yeah, I like PWM, too"
but then I realized it was me who wrote it in the first place! hahahah

what kind of wave tables are you people making? I made a neat-sounding one
the other day, it was like this:

just out of curiosity...what other midi implementations do you need?
