my sincere apologies =)

my sincere apologies =)

2004-11-02 by Dieter Vandoren

Dear list,
I have to confess, 'cause I can't keep it to myself anymore.
I haven't participated in the contests.
I am so sorry.
But judge, I was way too busy!
I swear I will from now on. =)

And I also have an idea for another concept:

A group of members teams up and the first one makes one track, then
passes it to the next team member. He adds another track without
changing the first one and passes it to the next, and so on...
Multiple groups could compete like this to have the best pattern in the
end. Or just do it for fun to see what people come up with.
Restrictions like what machines to use can be added or not.

Nice idea!! Maybe one or two tracks/one member..

This may be an old idea but forgive me for not keeping up with the
Elektron stuff as much while living overseas.

I agree, this would be very cool. This would, of course, also work
very well as a concept to apply to MnM contest. Doing an MnM contest
monthly on an individual basis would be nice, but would be different
than the MD contest because "regular" instrument use is that much more
readily available. I think the multiple person use of the MnM in a
contest is intriguing, especially if the early tracks are not allowed
to be changed. You could set a number that had to be in a team, and
how may total tracks that each person could do. example such as team
of 3, 1 track each.. team of 3, 2 tracks each. team of 4, 1 track
each... etc.

Don't want to overload the Yahoo site, though, since space is so
limited, but who would be interested in either individual or team MnM
only contests? And finally the mother of all Elektron contests (that
would be the source of some other nice promotional material for the
company, as is the current contest in my opinion) - the Elektron
freestyle contests. MD+MnM class (current production) and True
Freestyle (MD, MnM, +SID optional in any combination).

This is the kind of thing that, if not only for webspace and
organizational ease, would be better served by a privately run public
bbs or content management system as was heavily argued earlier on the
list.

Yours,
Chris

I'm interesting MnM collaborations. I can host uploads as well, as soon
as my hosting provider (suso.org) gets Metadot (metadot.com) up and
running on his equipment. I'll prod him now and see what happens.

Great idea, I was thinking of something like that too.
Count me in for any concept, it sounds very inspiring to work on
tracks with different people.

Anyway's, who is the winner of the MD since two persons ended with
the same no of votes? And what will be the next month's machine
choice? I would like to start again since I want to win once :-)

And of course I've been busy with the MnM and MD combo and came up
with a hypnotising techno track starting with a hint of tribal
flowing into something a bit more ominous........(beware, watch your
back!)

I'm in as well. It's good to see that this group is becoming very
creative. :-)

I guess it's a tie. :-) Anyway I think Joe should decide, since I got
to decide last month.

Excellent stuff, even from the crappy inbuilt speaker of the PC I'm
using now. :-) Do you have any plans to release your stuff on record?

Very pro and 'ready-sounding' stuff here. :)

One question: Is this done just with MD+MnM or is there something
else too?? Live recording (I've understand that live is your thing)
or 'hardrive-edited'?

Toni.

ps. well there was actually two questions...

Actually I'm not doing much effort to release or find someone who
will. Untill now I alway's wanted to do better, I'm a perfectionist.
But lateley the reactions are getting more and more enthusiastic so
maybe it's time to send some demo's again. Any suggestions where to
start?

Ronald.

Well, to be honest, it's not 100% Live and not 100% MnM and MD, but
most of the sounds you hear are from the magnificant couple!
It's made with one pattern on the Mnm, one pattern on the MD, some
sound fx from an KORG ESX-1, some FX from the Kaosspad II.
I recorded the main structure Live playing with these. (wich I
usually do) When I'm satisfied with the overall flow and atmosphere
I load it into Logic and put some extra accents here and there
because I've only got two hands and my imagination goes far beyond
the capabilities of them. I also play two synthtracks Live into
logic to give a more natural feeling over longer time. These were
from native instr. FM and i guess with some tweaking you can get
them from the MnM as well.
So yes, everything is done Live but not in one go, when I would do
this kind of music with a partner I would def. do it all live.

no, you won 5 to 4. the results were sent out yesterday. it would
have been nice
to win, but it's nice to see that the person I voted for won. which
unfortunately didn't
happen in other much more pressing matters this week :-(

This sounds great and very inspiring!

For me still a lot to learn with these wonderful machines, but to
hear the work from other Elektron users is really a motivation!

For the contests ideas I'm all ear! MD + MM + Sidstaton.

I just checked the polls section, and it says we got 5 each. Whatever
the result I think someone else than me should decide, so go ahead
Joe! :-)

As for the much bigger decision made this week, I'm sorry too, both
for the American people and the world.. :-(

Joe, how was your gig??

Nils

I know what you mean.. I've been doing electronic music for 15 years,
but I still haven't released a single record. It's fun, though. :-)

I'm sure you could get your music out on record if you wanted to. You
obviously have talent. I'm sorry that I have no good suggestions,
like you I've made no effort to find out.

Anyone else have any suggestions?

Regards
Nils

hmm.... you're right. I guess I just misread the email then.

alright, well I guess I'll choose EFM-CY then; just to make it the
complete opposite of
the EFM-BD used last month.

weird. you wouldn't think it would take them an hour to troubleshoot a
DI box, but it
did! so everything was delayed and half of my friends had to leave...
but my set
went pretty well so all's not lost.
