Recently got Monomachine, quick question...

2005-02-21 by c3dw

This is quite an instrument! Unfortunately I do not have nearly
everything figured out. My question today is this:

When recording patterns using the sequencer, I am having a difficult
time figuring out how to make my keyboard play the patch selected on
track #2, or rather any other track than the patch that is on track
#1 (I have the module Monomachine with a MIDI keyboard hooked up). I
figured out that by using the bus selector AB I can get the triggers
on the module itself to play the patch, but how do I get my MIDI
keyboard to do so?

From your post, it sounds like you have the tabletop version. Is this
the case?

Take a look at Global -> Control -> MIDI channels. That will tell you
what track is responding to which channel.

Yes, I have the tabletop. Thank you so much for your quick reply. I
figured it out. I am regretting a little that I just didn't buy the
keyboard version, but oh well. Expect some more stupid yet simple
questions from me in the future!

Are you a keyboard player? In other words can you
actually play? I'm not buying the keyboard
version...but I am more of a programmer. I figure
grid mode will work fine. Also, I though you can use
it real time using the built in buttons to triger the
sounds no?

I, too, am more of a programmer than a player. The great thing about
the tabletop is that you can take it out to the couch and create music.
The keyboard version is great, too, but I like the portability of the
tabletop. Also, if you attach a controller like the MicroKontrol to it,
you get much of the same functionality. I've turned the MicroKontrol
into the central control surface of a rig which included the SFX-60 and
Live. It's pretty sweet.

Re: [elektron] Recently got Monomachine, quick question...

I'm more of a programmer as well. I only wish I had the keyboard
version because of the lit LCD's above the keys and the fact that
you don't have to deal with setting midi channels on external stuff.
But those really aren't big deals. I don't have work today and since
Scott's reply I've practically written a song. It's fantastic to
work with once you get your head around it. I'm still probably only
40% aware of it's capabilities, but it's enough to where I can do
some interesting things. I can't wait until I'm fluent with it.

About this song of yours, would you mind posting it to
elektron-users.com? There's an area on the site for Song + Pattern +
Kit uploads. I'd love to check it out.

Also, we are hosting monthly Monomachine contests. It's not really a
contest, but we encourage you to upload your work. This month, we are
using SuperWave Saw + an effect. I upped my entry today; it's pretty
cool what I discovered in the Saw machine.

The keys are handy, right now I'm using the mono as a main sequencer and it
makes it the center of a control station.

Gear porn! I love gear porn!

Is it easy to see the LCD on the MnM? It looks like the Virus would be
in the way.

Yea, that was my concern originally too, but when your sitting down you can
see it fine, in you field of view the bottom of the virus stops at the very
back of the MnM. And when standing you can see the lcd as well. I really
wanted the MnM in the easiest spot to play with.
