Very true. But it was marketed as limited, no doubt some people purchased it also because of this. Plus given the fact of what used ones go for on eBay these days. Practically new prices. I don't care cause I don't have one, yet. But I'd be pissed if I just won one off eBay only to relize a new batch was being released. --- In elektron-users@yahoogroups.com, Federico Ciapi <federico.ciapi@t...> wrote: > > why should we be? > > They aren't stealing my Sid, and I didn't buy it because it was limited.

i wouldn't pay double the price for what they first came out as selling the sidstation for. __________________________________ Celebrate Yahoo!'s 10th Birthday! Yahoo! Netrospective: 100 Moments of the Web http://birthday.yahoo.com/netrospective/

I'm a *little* peeved because I was gearing up to sell mine, and now I have to wait until after March 10 so my asking price won't be so close to the friend price for the initial 25... after that though, I should still be able to get what I'm asking as it will still be a lot less than what Elektron wants for a new one :) disclaimer: I love the Sid, but I'm using my modular synth almost exclusively these days and the Sid isn't getting the attention it deserves, so I'd like it to go to a good home. I'd like to parlay the funds into some new modules, which is where my musical activity happens these days... plus I have some spare 6581s and 8580s, so I may still subject these to a modularized-Sid experiment in the future... meantime, if anyone wants to buy a used Sid, hit me up after March 10 ;) cheers, kevin ===== hear my music here: http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?songs=231479&T=9048 see my studio here: http://members.tripod.com/static_insect/ __________________________________ Celebrate Yahoo!'s 10th Birthday! For example for a US order you now get: * UPS Express shipping * Power supply (switching light one) * Import taxes payed This, plus that the dollar is just worth about 60% of what it once was counted in Swedish currency SEK. Plus that the production of these units were much more expensive as well, as it is a one off production with several components hard to track down. All together, I think the people who think we are overpricing the SID today would be quite surprised to see our margin compared to what is usual to other synths. We could never sell the SidStation in stores today at reasonable prices! But we love doing them, we love the sound and want to spread it. When we found the 100 new chips we just couldn't ignore them, knowing there could be 100 more SidStations. And of course we do have a margin, and selling them do help us getting other new stuff out on the market. But if you think one gets in the music machine business these days to get rich you're wrong. This is a tough small world, and I don't think there are many other who expanded the last few years (not taking in account computer accessory makers such as M-Audio). Making a new synth for us is like making a new computer, including a new OS (at least parts), new set of applications, new hardware (very highly specified), new marketing, new users manual, press releases, photo sessions, trade fairs, keeping the servers running plus updating existing users and products. You can find much more efficient ways to making money. But we're here because we love to see our music making babies multiply, and listen to the great amount of amazing music in brilliant musicians hands! And also the feeling that maybe one or a few of our stuff will be appreciated and used for a long time. Daniel (Elektron)

Well now that you've put it that way, I can understand the rate increase. Don't get me wrong, I do love all of your products and own both the MD and the MnM, so I give you guys a lot of props for making what I call the best electro gear that there is on the market and that's a big compliment considering that there is so many good synths out there today. Sorry if I made it sound like the Sidmachine is not worth the price. ELEKTRON KICKS ASS! No pun taken! :) Just wanted to clarify that the price we ask now is not out of greed, there are many reasons for it being at the level it is as I explained, and it's up to everyone to justify if it's worth it or not! > ELEKTRON KICKS ASS! Thanks alot! We try do the best we can! :) It seems at least some people are happy with what we do, but we'd fool ourselves if we thought we could please everyone. Generally, Elektron is not about "bang for the buck", but refined instruments for the musician that know exactly what he/she wants... Daniel
