Netstockfest 2005

Date: 18.03 - 20.03.2005 (24/7)

18th of March 2005: the NetstockFest, the very first netaudio webfestival will start.
Over 60 artists, 20 netlabels, 10 netradios from all over the globe will liven up 3 days of non-stop live music
broadcasted exclusively though the Internet.

Artists will perform live "on air" from their home or from wherever they wish and they will broadcast
their performance through a central server. Internet radios involved will broadcast the streaming
by relaying the central del server, serving an unlimited number of listeners.

The festival has been carried out upon an idea of Emanuele Errante, an Italian musician quite
active in the global netaudio community under the pseudonym of "Mais", and Raffaele Marranzini
who has taken care of the technical aspects (both of them are from Italy).
Emanuele Errante and Raffaele Marranzini are also co-owners of the netlabel OpenLab Records (www.openlabrecords.com).
A very important and crucial contribution has been offered by Pete Leuenberger, owner of the Swiss netlabel maetrixsolution
(www.maetrixsolution.com) and Manfred Genther, creator, accomplisher and artistic director of the German electronic music festival
Lab 30 (www.lab30.net).

Netaudio is music that is produced to be distributed freely and legally via the internet. Often the term Netaudio is used as
somewhat a synonym for files in the mp3 format. The first time the term Netaudio appeared in its present context was when
the German music magazine De:Bug started the netaudio mailing list in June 1999. The first message on the list defined Netaudio
in a rather broad way:
"this mailinglist will be to promote audio on the web...
preferred mails: links to audio sites or broadcasts of every kind of electronic music. the more direct the links
(as in directly to specific .mp3 .ram usw. files) the better. distribute and promote webaudio!"
Today the Netaudio scene is still very much connected to the electronic music community and to the work of the netlabels.
It consists of losely connected artists releasing their productions for free on a netlabel website.
Netlabels act like real music labels, but they distribute free music in electronic format. Artists
are selected by the netlabels and their works become part of the netlabel catalogue. Albums and single tracks are
distributed under Creative Commons Licenses (www.creativecommons.org) and are copyrighted by the respective artists.

By playing with the name Woodstock, the festival has been called Netstockfest. Woodstock and Netstock have three main
common points: the duration (three days), the high number of performers and the non-stop nature of the event.
The difference between the two fests? well... it rained in Woodstock ...

Among the performers you will find netaudio artists and non netaudio artists such as Venetian Snares, Retina.it, Xela, Tomas Jirku, Bern, Helios, Mathon, Kernel32, [in]anace, Uzo, Mais, Receptor, Phoenelai, 020200, joko13, etc. etc...

We hope that this news will be interesting for you and will find a place on your media.
Thanks for the consideration!

Technical Stuff (streaming)...

For connecting to the Netstockfest-Server to receive a .ogg-stream use VLC (mac, win and linux - www.videolan.org), winamp (win), foobar (win) or diffrent software and type.
For connecting to the Netstockfest-Server to receive a .mp3-stream use VLC (mac, win and linux - www.videolan.org), iTunes (mac), or winamp (win), foobar (win) or diffrent software and type.

Well, there isn't just ONE url because we have a lot of netradios that are replicatingour stream in various formats.
So the correct answer should be: it depends on which stream format (MP3, OGG eventually others)the listener prefers.

But it's not completely correct... because it may happen (and we all hope this will happen :-) ) that one ofourfellow netradios is too busy (ie. all "listeners slot" are occupied) and so we have to redirect new listeners to other radios that have some slots available. Moreover it may happen (and we all hope this will not happen ;-) ) that a netradio goes down for some reason so that we should delete it from our lists.

To do this and for other technicalreasons such as compiling real time statistics on listeners, we can't give the listeners a single "entry point".
That is why I'm working on a dinamic web page that will contain a complete list of available audio streams.

The list will tell:

- stream format for each stream

- number of listeners currently connected

- availability of "listeners slot"for each stream

The music is just one click away from there. The surfers just have to click on any link to start listening.
The URL of the page with the list of streams will be:
http://www.netstockfest.net/listen.php
