MD Dynamix Section Feature Idea

Sent this to Elektron already for consideration but interested to know if anyone has any comments or additions to the basic idea: I love the Dynamix section of the FX very much and use it always. When I am working on patterns I usually route all tracks through the main stereo outs. As the compressor is reacting to all the tracks feeding into the stereo bus - with higher compression settings the overall tonal shifts start to get very rhythmic - on a sustained kick drum for example - all other tracks are squashed as long as the kick is present but they lift again when the kick is absent. Two things: 1. Because the Dynamix/Compressor is always reacting to its input material - in a live situation - if I mute a track (the kick drum for example) I lose that beautiful rhythmic compression effect from the rest of the mix because the kick is not hitting the compressor input. The same goes for any other track you mute or unmute. 2. From a recording/multi-track point of view - I always track everything separately. I mostly use the separate output for this. In order to separate the tracks for recording I can only have 1 MD sound routed to the Main outs to use the Dynamix section for recording. The same problem exists as in my first example - with the whole mix routed through the Dynamix/Main out the individual tracks all push and pull against each other in level and tonal characteristic but as soon as I route individual tracks to the separate output or mute them so I can record say the Hi Hats separately - I lose the original sound. An idea for a future MD OS release:- 1. A new parameter in the Dynamix section - Sidechain/Main Mix Balance Re-work the software so that the Dynamix FX algorithm has sidechain input. The balance parameter would then adjust how much the compressor is either reacting to the Main Mix audio(mutes included) or to the Side Chain input signal from the individual tracks. The sidechain input only affects the compressor - the audio does not pass through to the mix outs. 2. A new parameter in every Track - Dynamix Sidechain Send Level This would set how much level of each MD track gets routed to the Dynamix Side Chain input. It would need to be a pre-mix volume/pre- mute send so that the track volume and mutes do not affect the Sidechain signal. Parameter locks for this might be nice too...... Something also very cool about this would be the ability to use the External Inputs and then have the source input signal from this MD track feeding the Dynamix Sidechain inputs - say a Monomachine bassline pushing and pulling on the compressor for some truly mind bending stuff....... Cheers all..... DAVID
