Thanks for the clarification!

Actually bought a set of Swissonic 8xAD/DA units(the old 44/48khz mk2
model) some time ago, based on the fact that these also had Crystal
converters. Dunno if these are the exact same chips the Elektron gear
uses, I guess so. Comparing these units with the Elektron gear is of
course extremely subjective and impossible to quantify without
streaming the same signal through both converters and doing blind A/B
tests. Still, my stomach feeling tells me you've got the clocking and
front end better than the Swissonics units. Any thoughts on this
yourself?

Alrighty! So you know how to make the MD sound even better... Less
polyphony and better sound is on the wish list for an alternative hifi
OS! Hehe..

I would think that the difference has more to do with the analogue
subsystem after the DA! Like the OP-amps and how capacitors are set
up, and the power distribution etc... The DA:s are generally good
these days, it's more how much time is spent giving them a good
surrounding. In the MD and the Mono we use a separate PCB for all the
audio stuff to separate the digital (noise) from the analogue signals
the best we can.

...a modern computer with onboard audio is usually an excellent
example of semi-decent DA:s in a terrible environment, picking up all
the noise possible from inside. Like moving the mouse or reading from
the hard drive. :)
