Sidstation problem :(

Sidstation problem :(

2005-07-14 by Andy Tarpinian

I am going to send a email to elektron but wanted to wait a bit for the UW
stuff to die down, I¹m sure they are very busy right now.

After not using my (about 3 years old) Sidstation for a while I pulled it
out the other day. Now I'm not sure but it's possible I may have plugged in
the wrong power cable accidentally at first, I had a lot of cables out and I
was excited to use it again ;P and it came on with some weird graphics on
the display. I know I then unplugged it and deff have the right power cable
in it now and at first it came on dim, and after turning in on a off a few
times it is at full brightness with all the lights on but no text on the
display. I tried messing with the display view control but that's not it. I
hope I didn't not seriously screw it up or something. Any suggestions would
be appreciated.

Thanks,
Andy

How do I go about resetting it? Is there a key combo to press? I can't
access the System-Memory-Reset option because no text appears on the
display, just a green screen.

The bright screen usually means it's a wrong power supply, do not continue using that powersupply or you might fry you sid chip.

make sure you use the correct power supply and try adjusting the contract of you lcd screen by turning the nob on the back.

I had that once and quickly stopped using this power supply. couldn't find the original psu and ordered another one. no I have a huge sticker on the Sidstation PSU saying "sidstation" .

grrretzz

I had the same thing happen with mine and thought it was the end of the
road, but I tried another PSU in a desparate last attempt and it worked
perfectly. I guessed that the PSU had gradually lost power over a period of
time since it was still giving out the correct voltage but the current
seemed to have dropped off. Give it a try and good luck

Timebombs !!

2005-07-20 by marc s davidson

hi andy,

please let me know how you get on with your sidstation, my machine
has developed the same

symptoms...display corrupted and all leds are lit.

My waldorf xt is sick as well... finding a repair centre is proving
difficult..

These , and other older hardware synths are ( as proposed in a
recent sound on sound article ) - timebombs !

Out of warranty , difficult or impossible to get spares and/or
extremely expensive if you do..

They are just ticking away ready to let us down at any moment !

Aaaargh !

Hi marc, Daniel told me that my Sisdtation is quite sick. He says the
machine seems like it's not booting at all. Something may have gotten fried,
it could only just be the power regulator though. He said it can be taken to
a local technician to see if it is only the power regulator, its an easy
part to fix apparently.

I'm just gonna send mine to elektron to get fixed up proper whatever the
problem is. It's one of my first synths so we have a bond :)
