Intro and a question: which one?

Intro and a question: which one?

2005-07-25 by zerocrossing2001

Hey,

I joined the list because Elektron is doing an incredible job of viral marketing! I don't have
one (yet) but so many of you guys have said, "Machinedrum it's the One" that I just have to
do some more digging.

So... my question... or should I say questions. First, why do you love your Elektron SO
damn much? The samples on the site are... cool, but they don't seem to reflect the rabid
nature of the Machinedrum fans. You kids have any links of stuff you've done with it? I'd
love to hear more.

Second, I have plenty of hardware sequencers and actually I'm planning on shelving them
because I just can't do the type of quick construction/editing that I can using software (I'm
comparing using a Korg Electribe ESX-1 or a E-MU XL-7 to sequencing in Mark Of The
Unicorn's Digital Performer 4)... or can I? I keep hearing the Machinedrum is such a joy to
work with. I'd love features like real time swing/shuffle feedback. Does it do that? What's
song construction like? My Electribe and Command Station are great for making quick
multibar loops, but when I try to put them into a traditional song structure I find it very
awkward. So would it be better for me to get the Monomachine? Machinedrum? I have a
few synths that I love, like an Access Virus C, Korg Wavestation and a Roland SH-32.

I'm listening to the Monomachine now and it seems like that may be more my style since I
don't need another drum machine... can the Monomachine do Machinedrum sounds?

thanks,

Mark

just scan this forum and www.elektron-users.com

hi, you should shelve/sell them and those other drummachines. the
xl7 and electribe dont give the satisfaction or the ease of use of
the MD and the sounds dont nearly compare either. i have used both
at some stage.. MD is crispy clear quality sound combined with the
most well integrated hardware sequencer known to (wo)man. no-one can
fuck with it. as a synthesizer/drummachine, it stomps MPC and any
other digital device including ur laptop ;) into a worm hole. unless
you like making music with mice and samples that is. the only things
that the MD cant do is analogue drums (and a 909 hh). but it comes
very close with trx machines and you can sample an 808 or jomox
kick/snare/hh with the MDUW

its unbooleeevable, oh the joy.. im serious ;) much more fun than
staring at the screen but if you like doing that, the MD will
integrate with ur software sequencer beautifully. many people use
their computer to trigger patterns on MD an stuff.

I'd love features like real time swing/shuffle feedback. Does it
do that?

what is shuffle feedback?

 What's

song mode is the easiest i have ever used.

its a totally different question, i would suggest MDUW if you
already have some synthesizers that you like. only drawback of using
MD as master sequencer is that you cant record to its sequencer from
a midi keyboard. monomachine has max 64 step/per pattern MD is 32..
u can link patterns. you can record to the monomachine sequencer, it
is quantised tho. get the MDUW.

could be ;)

since I
> don't need another drum machine...

you might think that now..

can the Monomachine do Machinedrum sounds?

it can in a very limited way.
